Being up all hours of the night, I started clicking around on friends-of-friends’ blogs, and came across this giveaway for Ugg boots. If you have a blog, this is a great way to get entered to win Uggs. I do not have any Uggs myself, because I have not yet been able to justify the expense. However, all my girlfriends have told me that these boots are the thing to have during the winter. I do admit that my feet get awfully cold as I walk in and out of buildings during what passes for the winter season here in Texas. Mostly it consists of wet weather here, with a few months of “cold” in January or February.
You can read more about Ugg boots here. Did you know that they come in gold now too? It was interesting to me to know that they purport to be more eco-friendly than the competition:
Whooga ThermoFleece sheepskin is treated without the Chrome Tanning agents that are used in the majority of tanning factories. This results in our boots being both biodegradable and recyclable which is friendlier for the environment. Chrome Tanning is not only harmful to the environment but often causes irritation to those with sensitive skin and is actually detrimental to the durability and flexibility of the sheepskin.
However, it does sound as if they might be made from a less-than-renewable resource:
Our boots (and all authentic boots) are made from a scarce natural material, merino sheepskin. Demand is increasing every year and so manufacturers fight hard to fulfill orders, capacity of authentic manufacturers is limited and quickly outstripped by orders. Last season the increased popularity caught many manufacturers off guard, most people ordering from November onwards were forced to wait until March for their boots!
I would be willing to hear more from Whooga regarding the product, or to win some to try for myself! Anyone else have an opinion on Uggs?

I’ve always wanted Uggs as well, but could hardly justify the expense in Dallas and was afraid they would be ruined in Seattle. Now that I’m here in Stamford…who knows what may be under my Christmas tree! I also really like the Hunter Wellies with the liners, but am unsure about actually buying them since they seem to be made from petroleum products.
